Feminism? What about masculism?

April 22, 2007

The title of the topic isn’t totally my focus, but I think it’s definitely an important part of what I’m trying to say. It’s always bothered me, but after making my first visit to Derek’s webpage, I decided to make a feminism topic of my own. Nothing against you Derek. I just had the urge to write my own little topic. I’m sure you’ll enjoy dissecting this anyways. Go ahead and reveal all the holes for me, so that I can fill them with my phallicistic verbiage (Refer to this to find out why this is probably the most clever thing I’ve ever said/written. I’m so disappointed in myself… )

Okay, so we all know about feminism, right? I’m all for feminism, but I think that nowadays there is little need for it, at least in our society. It seems to me alot of feminists have their priorities messed up. There are many countries where male dominance is clearly a problem. I think feminists should focus on helping out in these places, rather than wasting their time in developed countries, where they make no change, just simply dissecting any possible facet of society that is conveniently “unfair” to them, and fuelling their fruitless propaganda with it. Our nations have evolved in its views. Equality issues are very rare these days. Get over it. (Oh yeah, and if I generalize feminists as being bad, I’m sorry. I think everyone reading this should be intelligent enough to realize that I’m not some narrow-minded prick, and they should be able to differentiate simple text from my true meaning). I can think of plenty of plausible inequalities and stereotypes towards men, but I don’t hear a whole lot of bitching about it in my day to day travels. Why? Is it immeasurable to the suffering todays women go through? Are we expected to bear it due to the “nature of our gender”? Do we simply not care? I personally don’t, and my intent here is not to promote masculism either, despite the topic’s title.

The intent of this topic is debunking feminism, for the most part, and I’ll start with just that. The debunking of certain “myths” or exaggerations. Let’s see, where to start… the workplace is a common one. Let’s head there for starters. I shouldn’t even need to go into detail on wages. Wage discrimination is severely frowned upon today. If there is some sort of major pregidous, the woman could quite easily report it, and have it dealt with. Women also feel that they are treated less than equal in the workplace. I’m sure that’s true in a many cases. I wouldn’t deny that. But I wouldn’t deny the opposite either. In a working environment, or just about any environment for that matter, women are generally treated with much more courtesy than men. Doesn’t sound very fair to me.

This working stuff branches off into the defined roles in a family too. Traditionally, men are usually the providers, and women are the caretakers. This has slowly been changing for a long time now. More and more women are becoming independent and working jobs to provide for their families. There’s still some definite inequalities in here, and feminists see this a big problem. But seriously, what’s the big fucking problem? It’s all a matter of preference whether you want to work for the rest of your life, or stay at home, cleaning the house, and taking care of the kids. What’s so great about working a job where you may be getting a salary where you’re working weekends and plenty of overtime (not getting payed for it). Your boss/co-workers are dicks. The job is far from comfortable. There are serious conditions affecting your health/safety. I can go on and on. And then, all the shit you do to make some chump change gets blown on that new dishwasher, or that trip to Wacky World. While I may be exaggerating, it’s not a very severe one. There’s a lot worse things that people go through.

While I’m at it, it’s a lot harder to imagine a working woman having to go through as much of the bullshit I mentioned as a working man, isn’t it? Women usually tend to flock to cushier jobs, while you rarely see women with shitty jobs. Maybe that has something to do with differences in pay between men and women overall. If somebody takes a shitty job that nobody wants, or that they have to work harder to get, perhaps its not out of the question to say that they would get payed more than somebody with a nice, easy job. Now, I think most of you should be able to connect the dots here, so I won’t bother explaining it. Not only that, but in those shittier/harder jobs, it’s usually the men who achieve more and get more done, when compared to women in the same situation, but is there fair compensation for their additional work? Far too often, not. Starting to look pretty good for women.

But wait, this is far from over. Let’s look at the stay at home parent as a job. You get to be with your children more often (which for the typical parents, is a very good thing). You don’t have anybody telling you what to do. You are your own boss. You get to decide what gets done, on a schedule you make up. You can ”leave work” whenever you want. You aren’t working with assholes, and you don’t really have to answer to anybody. You might not get payed, but you don’t really have to worry about buying anything either. You probably even get money to blow on the things you want. Sounds pretty fucking sweet, if you ask me.

I think that’s enough on that topic though, till I get some fun rebuttals :D . I’ll move on to sex. Everything from the media usage to stereotyping. Media is easy enough. Woman does commercial. Woman uses sexual device. Viewer is enticed. Viewers purchaces product/service. Company makes money. Company pays woman. Woman is satisfied. If somebody allows themselves to have their judgement swayed by some commercial for cologne, or what have you, they’re a fucking moron, and their opinion doesn’t matter anyways. That’s the same for all media. Unless somebody is actually saying something that is expected to make you look at the world around you in a different light, the viewer of the media in normally expected to be amused, or interested. I don’t see a whole lot of documentaries on why men should be dominant over women on TV. If the whole inequality in media needs reinforcing though, there’s plenty of television shows and commercials where women are shown as being better than men. It’s not uncommon at all. As far as stereotyping in the media goes, it’s the same thing. It’d be stupid to let the media decide the way you look at things.

Women being viewed as sexual objects is also only a half truth. Often times, they’re alot more like sexual godesses, worshipped by men, detested or possibly envied by feminists. The way I look at it, the advantage that men have over women is the capacity for strength and etc. The advantage women have is that they are more aesthetically pleasing. I’ve seen and heard evidence of this many times. So why not use what god gave you? Most people have the capacity to look really good if they take care of their body and put some effort into maintaining their appearance. There’s nothing wrong with that, and I believe that the fact that these people put work into improving the way they look is one of the main reasons society defines them as being attractive individuals. I don’t deny that there are people that won’t be viewed as beautiful no matter what they do, but taking good care of yourself truly is the most important thing that a person can do to look good, and I think that’s a great thing. I’m sort of going off course, but you can probably see what I’m getting at. Why do people bother to make themselves look nice? To garner attention and respect of those around them. Many women, and men are exhibitionists. They want to look good so that others will notice. That makes people feel good about themselves. Women in particular, use this “aesthetic advantage” over men to uhhh… take advantage of men. So I wouldn’t say that women being viewed as “objects”, as feminists like to call it, is really an inequality in favour of men, but of women.

But oooohhh, what about all the sexual harassment and rape out there? Women are definitely the clear majority victims in these scenarios. That truly is horrible, and the people who commit those acts are horrible. But in sexual harassment and the like, who would you believe to have more advantage in the court, or in the public eye. There’s a lot of double standards in favour of women, but none so blatantly fucked up as what we’ve got in our court systems. Women are treated with a lot of sympathy in sexual harassment/rape cases, as they well deserve, but reverse the genders in the same situation, and we’ve got some major issues. If you want to talk about gender inequalities, that is the most pressing thing I can think of in our society right now. Women have a definite advantage over men in court. Doesn’t even have to be rape. Divorce and child custody is fucked up too. If we change the court system, men still get fucked. Majority of the time, women have way better jail conditions. As if they weren’t good enough already.

Why is it that violence towards men is acceptable and often even hilarious, but violence towards women is viewed as being horrible horrible stuff. I’m fine with this philosophy, mostly because of the nature and size of women in comparison to men, but if that ideology were to even present equality between male and female, there’d be some huge shit storms tearing around, I can tell you that much. And then, we are expected to be the protective entity, taking higher risks, dealing with more shit, and when Willie Wifebeater pulls some domestic abuse shit, all of us are labelled as violent, dominating creatures. Keeping the woman happy is another thing. We’re expected to be the strong supportive one, and keep our problems to ourselves. We are (traditionally speaking) the buyer of presents, the granter of desires, the crying shoulder, and so much more is expected of us in our society, otherwise, we’re the bad guys. It’s sounding pretty good to be a chick right now, huh? But I’m happy being what I am, and I’m not gonna go join some pretentious band of woman haters either. Where are all those masculist groups anyways? It sounds to me like there’s plenty of reasons for them to exist, but I never hear about them.

I didn’t cover everything, as I’ve spent far too many hours on this as is, and I’m sure you’re all getting tired of my ranting. But there’s several points here on Wikipedia that show you where alot of the real inequalities lie. If you’ve got any counterpoints (as I’m sure there’ll be lots of), go hard. I’m pretty much done school, so I’m free to have some fun with this.

Finally, another update!

April Fools, suckers. Don’t worry though. I’ll have a good one as soon as I’m not busy with school.

Rap: Musical Menace to Society!

February 20, 2007

So, I pulled through and actually did an update within reasonable time from my last one! Anyways, I’d like to draw your attention to the grave importance of this topic! People are murdering people! Poverty is rising! Thugs are thugging! Right now someone is engaging in sexual intercourse with a Llama! Why? I’ll tell you why! Rap music! This so called artistry must be stopped, or a terrible fate awaits us all!

Just last night, a man was shot multiple times and killed at a bar in Texas. I bet I know what they were listening to. What they listen to every day. Violent rap music telling us to “bust caps” and “kill that muthafuckah”. 7 days ago, at an office building in Philadelphia, a man killed 3 people before taking his own life! He is undoubtedly another partaker in this meltdown of musical marring. Why do you think security is so tight at rap music concerts? The news has informed me (multiple times I might add), of rap concerts going sour, resulting in fatalities, injuries, you name it. The music promotes aggression. If that isn’t proof enough, I don’t know what is. Sure the lyrics might be bound to attract people who are already involved in acts depicted in the songs, but make no mistake, the mindwarping lyrics are bending adults and youth alike to its cause. The impressionable young ones should be spending time doing something more wholesome, like soccer. Soccer never hurt anybody… well maybe a little.

Speaking of children, that brings me to my largest concern. Their minds are like a dry sponge, waiting to soak up any moist intellectual stimulation they can find. If it happens to be rap music (if you can call that stimulation), the child’s fragile mind could be at risk, and believe it or not, children are taking this drug, smuggling it into their homes and listening to its harsh, curse-filled, gun-promoting lyrical onslaught. All the while the parent is helpless to come to their childs aid. They can do naught but sit in their living rooms, watching their televisions, if they are unlucky enough to actually be aware of the child’s painful self-destruction. The brave ones may express their disgust for this genre of music, but their hands are more or less tied, lest they further corrupt their child with negative prying and harsh discipline.

So please, help me in my fight against rap music, and together we can make the world a better place!

Okay, in all seriousness, rap and hip-hop do have their problems (just like any other music) and I’ve got a few videos that touch on most things that I, and most people with decent taste in music detest about the genres:
Song by the Roots. Nicely done by a nice group.
Generic Rap Song
I’m not a big fan of “Gangsta” rap myself, but I can enjoy well done songs that use more than one line of rhythm. There are several artists that push the genre and try new things. Gangsta rap aside though, there is plenty of variety in the hip-hop and rap, and I advise anybody with an open mind for music to give a good look for some of the excellent stuff.

If anybody has the urge to challenge me on my views, I cordially invite you to do so! For this post and any post!

Moooooaaaar!

February 4, 2007

Alrighty, since y’all were so rocked out by my last set, I thought I’d hit you with another dose of picturage. These are a couple years old, so their accuracy compared to our current looks may be a little… different!

Ninja me again in my casual/battle costume! Damn I’m sexy.

Dan featuring Kitty. So happy together!

Lee featuring moustache. Though he was remodelled with a cloak in the comic.

This one’s Travis (if you didn’t get the vague hints on the picture). Funny thing is, he actually bought a huge sword like that one a long time after I drew it. I can’t find the picture of Hpnotic, so I’m pretty sure I gave that picture to him. He’s got a big turtle shell on his back that he sheaths his ginormous sword in. I’m pretty sure those two are trying to compensate for something :P . Anyway, and without further adieu, the comic!

Behold the fugliness of the first page! I promise the next few pages will be a little easier on the eyes.

Shit! Face huggers!

For anybody who doesn’t understand this page, I’ll help you out with mathematics! Josh > Travis, therefore Velocity(travis)=Very High. If Velocity(Travis)=Very High then Sword(Josh)=Explode. Now that everyone is totally confused, let’s continue.

I’m glad this one isn’t coloured yet, otherwise I’d look a little… proud.

Remember, you can’t hug your children with firearms.

It’s hard drawing yourself getting hit in the face with a huge burning rock. I figured it was pretty boring being perfect, so I’d see what it would be like if I wasn’t. It turns out one of the side effects of being flawed is that you have to take a meteor to the skull every once in awhile.

I’m pretty sure if they could do that to each other in real life, they probably would. Every day. It would get old so fast…

You know, I didn’t notice until somebody told me, but Dan is definitely about to get shot in the wang. My apologies Dan.

The final, unfinished page. But at least you get to see the asskickery of Mr. Asfeldt.

So uhhh, that’s all for now folks. In the future I plan to make more, and actually finish these ones. But let’s just say that I’m likely to get sidetracked. We’ll see what the future holds for it. Hopefully I’ll also fix the whole ripping off Naruto thing lol.

EDIT:

As requested, here’s Perrin in ninja form. That’s right, Ninja. Definitely looks nothing like a cowboy. Well… I’ll try and make the stealth costume look more ninja-y.

Drawrings

January 30, 2007

I just finished colouring a picture in Photoshop (drawn by Travis), and I figured that I may as well scan some of my drawings I made during summer holidays and include them too. So eat up. It’s good for you!

Le piece de resistance. This is the bad muthafuckah I did in Photoshop. Probably my best artistic endeavour (‘cept for maybe my architecture stuff). Click the big picture to get an even bigger, less choppy picture, and sorry if anybody gets nasty load times for these pics.

Muh secksi stealth costume for a comic I started awhile back, but haven’t really done anything for since.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Dan’s stealth costume. Maybe if I scan some of the comic I made, these will make a little more sense. But it’s on lined paper, so maybe not. Anyways, I digress.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Josh’s stealth costume. The face didn’t turn out quite right, but it didn’t look bad so I didn’t wanna mess with it.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Travis’ stealth costume. Notice the tight tight gay shirts I gave both Josh and Travis as a little inside joke.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usLee’s stealth costume. Sorry Lee, I just couldn’t get this one to work right, as you can tell by all the erase marks. It’s harder than Travis makes it look to put your badassity on paper.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usSome chick I drew. There were others… but lets just say I don’t draw chicks as often as I should and the the others didn’t turn out well enough to show to human eyes… but I was quite happy with all the proportions and everything except her hand in this one.

In order to balance out the girliness of the last picture, I definitely need to show you guys this sweet picture of Thor. The style was a lil’ different from my usual, so I was glad that it turned out so well. I’m thinking of giving him a guitar variation too, because as we all know, Thor was the Norse god of rocking out, among other things.

That’s all my recent pictures for now.

Ah!!! Wtf?! An update?!?!?!

January 29, 2007

So uhhhh, long time no post, huh? I guess I’ll have to remind everybody that this page actually exists. I’ll just say that I was really lazy and I actually planned to let this thing die. However, after my recent activities in forums/ visits to friends blogs, I s’pose I rekindled a small fire for this dusty old place I haven’t been to for at least a couple months. Anyways, without further adieu, I give you a lazy reproduction of a comment regarding Clint Eastwood and manliness I made on another blog. And then maybe I’ll post some pretty pictures and some other stuff to attempt to make up for lost time (which is rather unpossible, but I’ll do my best).

Here’s the important public service announcement I’ll be copying and pasting from this site: http://tannas.wordpress.com/

Despite common belief, there is evidence that Clint may actually age very similar to your average human. If this is true, time is short! We, as redblooded, spicy food loving men, have a duty to ensure that the world is not without a hero! There have been many theories circulating, but I believe if we all do our part and grow hearty facial hair, stop using conditioner, use hotsauce wherever applicable (even ice cream, if need be), and drink all the whiskey manufacturers dry, this influx of manliness into our world will echo throughout the cosmos, birthing a new saviour to our world!

Another plausible, and probable scenario, would be that the world becomes too sissy and suck for it’s own good, and Clint’s replacement has no choice but to come into existence to strike fear and possibly even badassity into those who lack the afforementioned trait. If this is true, in the current state of the world (i.e. the explosion of emos and metrosexuals), this phenomena cannot be far away.

Logically, all we can do is to enforce the first theory. Remember, if there is no replacement for Clint, who will be there to hold Jesus back from crossing into our plane of existence, causing armageddon, hmmm? Chew on that fact, the next time you pull out that shaver. I leave with a premontion and some advice. There will be at least two 19 year old men (if they deserve that title), watching a show called Mein Liebe. If you see them, make sure you break them like the pink flower patterned napkins folded into swans (not the noble crane of course) that they are! That is all!

Does this make me a bad person?

November 10, 2006

Uh, so I guess I made a blog. But this is the only time I will ever admit it. The associations that come with the word blog are just too horrible. Anyways, welcome to the grand opening of my super duper site! Why would I make a site you might ask? Well, I’ll tell you! This site was basically created to set the world straight, tell everyone all about everything good and bad, and as a spot to record my travels through time so that my ever fading memory need not be clogged with useless garbage like the stuff I’ll be putting on here. So, a toast to the internets realization of the most beautiful site to ever grace its pages! May my close family and any girls who are remotely interested in me stay the fuck off this page, and may my e-mail inbox be one day filled to the brim with fan and hate-mail, corking the hole that the horrible spam once penetrated.

A shirt with which to rock!

I don’t really expect anybody outside a few of my random friends to bother posting anything in here. Howevah, if anyone should chance upon this post, they should totally tell me what their favourite or second favourite shirt is (no, you don’t have to say both if you don’t want to). They’re all so pretty, I really can’t bring myself to choose. I’ll probably end up buying two of them.

PS: The pirate totally looks like hes trying to sell me an iPod
